Citybreaks in Germany - a great option at any time of year

If you are looking for a country that offers you a choice of perfect short-break or city-break destinations, then there are not many places that can compete with the variety offered by cities in Germany from North to South, from West to East. The great attraction – certainly in comparison to many other countries, where there are fewer airports – is that so many of the cities have their own airport which you can fly to directly from the UK, and then use the legendarily-efficient public transport system to get easily and quickly into the centre of the city.

There are, of course, the world-famous ‘household’-name cities, such as Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, and Munich that all offer wonderful opportunities and options for a long weekend break with outstanding museums, churches, art galleries, great food and wine, and have lots of different events going on throughout the year – not just Christmas Markets, or the Oktoberfest, for which they are justifiably-famous.
However, where Germany excels is with its slightly smaller less well-known cities, such as Koblenz, Trier and Mainz, which are all easily-accessible with flights into Frankfurt or Cologne, or Potsdam, Leipzig or Dresden, which can all be reached from Berlin, although both Leipzig and Dresden have their own airports. Further south, you could fly into Stuttgart or Munich, and use these as your gateway to Heidelberg, Würzburg, Freiburg, Nuremberg, Augsburg or Regensburg. Whilst at the other end of the country, with a flight into Hamburg, you can discover Lübeck with its skyline that has remained relatively unchanged since the 15th Century or the Baltic coastal gem of Rostock. All these cities have their own fascinating histories, and offer excellent accommodation and many unique cultural experiences. They often refer to themselves as ‘Germany’s finest historic cities OFF the beaten track’ – well, through our efforts at Experience Germany Travel, we want to see them joining the cities very much ON the track!
With their variety and easy-accessibility, you'll be spoilt for choice with the fabulous cities that Germany has to offer, and you'll wonder why you have discovered more of them before.
The Experience Germany Travel office is open Monday - Friday between 9.30am and 5pm, and on Saturdays between 9.30am and 1.00pm. We are closed on Sundays.
