Experience Austria - mountains, Mozart, and so much more... even The Sound of Music

Although Germany's neighbour, Austria, shares a common language and many of its customs with its friends in the north, as any Austrian will readily, and proudly, tell you, the countries are also very different. It has a wonderful imperial history going back many centuries, when what we call 'Germany' today was a mish-mash of different fiefdoms. At one stage in the late 1800s, the Austro-Hungarian Hapsburg Monarchy stretched from close to the Russian borders in the east, and encompassed much of today's Northern Italy including classic cities such as Venice and Trieste to the south. Its population numbered nearly 60million people, speaking more than 50 different languages.
Today, obviously, Austria covers a much smaller area, with the population of just under 6million, but still has timeless cities with fabulous architecture, and stunning scenery which both complement and contrast with its larger neighbour. This means that it combines beautifully using Germany as a start and end point for a twin, or multi-country trip, for example, Munich-Zurich-Innsbruck, Munich-Bregenz-Innsbruck, or Munich-Passau-Salzburg.
We are delighted to help you plan an itinerary that shows you the best of both countries, whether travelling by car, train or on a wonderful river cruise.
Discover the holiday opportunities combining Germany with the delights of Austria, making the most of what these two countries have in common, but which also makes them so different.
